ADRA helps after deadly earthquake!
People in Nepal are all too familiar with the threat of earthquakes. But nothing could have prepared them for the 7.8 strong catastrophe that hit the mountain country last weekend.
The death toll is rising continuously, and 80% of the houses near the epicentre were destroyed. Right now the people of Nepal need our help. ADRA has been active in Nepal for many years, and is on the ground helping people right now. All of our local staff are safe.
The ADRA network is deploying 10-12 ERT surge staff to help ADRA Nepal deal with the emergency. ADRA’s initial efforts will focus on the Dhading Besi district, not far from the epicentre, to provide relief. We have been involved in responding to the emergency since Saturday and are part of a daily emergency response teleconference.
ADRA-UK’s Milimo Ninvalle, Programmes Officer with Emergency Response Training will be deployed in the next couple of days to provide project writing support for a period of 3 weeks.
Tarpaulins and emergency supplies will be transported by airfreight from Dubai to reach Nepal probably later today. ADRA is participating in the Health, WASH. NFI and Shelter cluster meetingsin Kathmandu to coordinate the relief efforts. The Adventist Sheer Memorial Hospital near Kathmandu did not sustain any damage and continues to operate.
We are now requesting donations to help us bring relief to the people of Nepal.
